Outport Services
What can our customers expect of us at an out-port.
Perkins endeavours to supply quality freight services
to our customers from start to end. At Darwin, Gove,
Groote Eylandt, Karumba and Weipa, Perkins has
its own staff, equipment and terminal facilities to unload and deconsolidate freight
from our vessels. At these ports, local delivery (cartage) to customer premises
may be organized by arrangement with the local Perkins representative.
At more remote ports of call in the communities, our vessels
will discharge freight onto dry ground immediately above the barge landing site.
When cargo has been landed at this point, it is considered delivered to the customer.
At the community landing, deconsolidation takes place at the time of discharge and
customers are required to sign the interim receipt copy, produced by the crew, as
evidence of receipt.
Perkins carries out weekly supply services for key customers
including groceries for trade stores in the communities. Therefore, Perkins communities
shipping services are based on routine port rotations as per Domestic Schedule information.
